The Credible project has officially entered its second phase, marking an important milestone in its ongoing work to support the development of robust and trustworthy carbon farming policies and markets across Europe. Building on the results and lessons learned from its first phase, the project continues to bring together policymakers, researchers, practitioners and private-sector stakeholders with the aim of strengthening the scientific, technical and policy foundations needed to scale up carbon farming in a credible and effective way.

This new phase places a stronger emphasis on supporting the practical implementation of carbon farming approaches and on contributing to the timely and robust development of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation. By fostering dialogue and collaboration across sectors, Credible aims to help bridge the gap between policy design and real-world application, ensuring that emerging frameworks are both scientifically sound and operationally feasible.

The launch of this second phase was marked by a consortium meeting held in Madrid, where partners gathered for the first time under the renewed project structure and coordination by Sonia Pietosi (EIT Food). The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the previous phase, share experiences and insights, and collectively define priorities for the next stage of work. Discussions focused on the evolving policy landscape for carbon farming in Europe, as well as on the tools and mechanisms needed to support implementation at scale.

During the meeting, partners exchanged views on how the project can continue to contribute to knowledge development, stakeholder engagement and capacity building across the sector. Particular attention was given to the need for practical guidance and accessible resources that can support farmers, land managers and other actors in adopting carbon farming practices in a way that ensures environmental integrity, transparency and trust.

Credible also continues to operate within the framework of the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”, working closely with key European institutions and initiatives involved in shaping the future of carbon removals and carbon farming policy. These include the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Research Executive Agency (REA), and the Expert Group on Carbon Removals. Through this collaboration, the project contributes to the development of policy instruments that can accelerate the transition towards more sustainable land use practices while maintaining high standards of credibility and environmental performance.

In addition, Credible will continue to develop a range of resources and engagement opportunities for stakeholders across Europe. These include technical reports, policy briefs, webinars, training activities and knowledge-sharing initiatives, as well as a dedicated online platform designed to support exchange between different actors involved in carbon farming. The European Carbon Farming Summit, the project’s flagship event, will also remain a central space for dialogue and collaboration, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges and future directions in the field.

As Credible moves into this new phase, the consortium remains committed to supporting the development of effective, credible and inclusive carbon farming systems across Europe, contributing to long-term climate, environmental and agricultural objectives. Further updates on project activities and upcoming milestones will be shared in the coming months.
